15-Day Window Period Opens, US-Iran Nuclear Talks Officially Commence Today

BlockBeats News, April 11th, a US-Iran joint delegation held the first face-to-face negotiation since the ceasefire at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The US delegation was led by Vice President Vance, Presidential Envoy Whitcomb, and Trump’s son-in-law Kushner, while the Iranian delegation was led by Speaker Kalibaf.

The negotiation faces significant uncertainties. Iran has stated that the negotiation must be based on the acceptance of Iran’s preconditions by the other party, including a ceasefire in Lebanon and the unfreezing of Iranian assets. The US has maintained a tough stance, reiterating that Iran’s cessation of uranium enrichment activities is a red line and demanding the continued safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz without any restrictions. Trump warned before the negotiation that if the agreement collapses, the US military will resume strike operations, further stating that Iran will never be allowed to charge tolls to passing ships.

The White House confirmed that formal talks began on Saturday morning local time, with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stating that the negotiation could last up to 15 days. This is the first time the two sides have sat at the negotiation table after about 40 days of intense fighting, and the outcome will directly influence the situation in the Middle East.
