On September 19th, U.S. President Trump signed an executive order named the “Golden Card,” stating that it will open a new visa pathway for “foreign individuals with extraordinary abilities who are willing to support the United States”: individuals can pay $1 million to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, or have a sponsoring entity pay $2 million, to receive expedited visa processing through this “Golden Card” program. Trump stated on social media that the U.S. immigration system is in urgent need of reform and is expected to generate revenue far exceeding $100 billion through the “Trump Card” initiative. This funding will be used for tax reduction, projects to boost economic growth, and debt repayment. In another post, Trump wrote, “Buy the Trump Card now,” and included a link to a government website.
