Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm requests Judge to Overturn Conviction

BlockBeats News, October 2nd, according to DL News, Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm has filed a request with a federal judge to dismiss the charges against him since his high-profile criminal trial concluded in August.

Storm’s plea of not guilty comes as the jury found him guilty of operating an unregistered money transmission business conspiracy exactly eight weeks after. The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

However, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision on the most serious charges — money laundering conspiracy and sanctions evasion. The combined maximum sentence for these two charges is 40 years, and the prosecution has not decided whether to retry Storm.

Storm’s attorney has requested the judge to acquit him of all three charges on the grounds that the evidence provided during the three-week trial did not prove Storm’s criminal intent and that the case should not have been tried in New York.
