The US Joins UK, Canada in Major Operation Against Crypto Fraudsters

BlockBeats News, March 16th, According to The Block, multiple law enforcement agencies from the United States Secret Service, the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) of Canada announced a joint international law enforcement operation codenamed “Operation Atlantic.” The operation aims to combat organized cryptocurrency fraud schemes, focusing on identifying and assisting victims of asset loss or risk through “approval phishing” tactics.

“Approval phishing” is often associated with so-called “piggybacking” investment scams, where criminals induce victims to grant full access to their cryptocurrency wallets, enabling the transfer of funds. Participating agencies in this operation also include the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the City of London Police, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, and the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), with collaboration and support from private sector partners. Building on the successful experience of the 2024 “Project Atlas,” this operation aims to proactively block fraudulent activities in real-time through cross-border collaboration.
