Bhutan is in the process of migrating its National Identity System from Polygon to Ethereum

BlockBeats News, October 14th, according to Cointelegraph, Bhutan is in the process of migrating its self-sovereign identity system from Polygon to Ethereum, allowing nearly 800,000 residents to verify their identities and access government services. The integration with Ethereum has been completed, and it is expected that the migration of all resident credentials will be completed in the first quarter of 2026.

Ethereum Foundation’s Chairperson Aya Miyaguchi attended the launch ceremony along with Ethereum’s co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuk. Miyaguchi stated that this is the world’s first national-level Ethereum identity system integration case.

Prior to this, Bhutan had been operating its national identity system on Polygon since August 2024, previously using Hyperledger Indy.
