Bitcoin Offline Transaction Demo: Mesh Radio Broadcasting Transaction Directly to Mempool at BOSS Summit

BlockBeats News, April 4th. At the recent BOSS Summit (Bitcoin Open-Source Summit) held in Dharamshala, India, developer Bala completed a live demonstration of a pure off-grid Bitcoin transaction, shocking the Bitcoin community.

Bala utilized Mesh Radio (a wireless mesh network based on Meshtastic LoRa technology), enabling a fully off-grid transaction with no internet, no ISP, no Wi-Fi, and no cellular data. Using only radio waves, the real Bitcoin transaction was broadcast in real-time directly to the Bitcoin mempool, achieving a seamless transition from Off-Grid to On-Chain.

This “cypherpunk ultimate demonstration” showcased Bitcoin’s resilience as a seizure-resistant currency, particularly suitable for scenarios involving censorship, network shutdowns, disasters, or uncertain times. Bitshala’s official statement read: “When we say we are building an uncensorable currency for uncertain times, this is what we mean.”

The related open-source repositories have been made public, enabling Meshtastic devices to connect with Bitcoin Core, splitting transaction data into small pieces for hop-by-hop transmission among mesh nodes, and ultimately broadcasting from an exit node to the global Bitcoin network.

This demonstration quickly sparked discussions in the community, being seen as a significant milestone in the integration of Mesh radio technology with Bitcoin, demonstrating that even when traditional communication infrastructures fail, the Bitcoin network can still maintain its core functionality.
