BlockBeats News, September 22nd, A recent report by Bloomberg Businessweek revealed that the cryptocurrency exchange platform Crypto.com experienced a previously unreported attack, where a teenager and his accomplices gained access to an employee account.
Bloomberg’s report focused on a member of the cybercrime group “Scattered Spider” named Noah Urban. Urban is known for employing phishing attacks targeting employees of telecom, tech, and cryptocurrency companies, with the aim of allowing Urban and his associates to obtain sensitive data. One of Urban’s successful attacks was carried out with the help of another hacker named Jack, where they gained access to a Crypto.com employee’s account. This attack took place at some point before March 2023, when Urban became the target of an FBI raid, resulting in the seizure of $4 million worth of cryptocurrency belonging to Urban, as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry.
A spokesperson for Crypto.com stated that this data breach incident affected “a very small number of individuals” and did not involve any customer funds.
