Canada’s British Columbia Province to Permanently Ban New Cryptocurrency Mining Projects from Connecting to the Grid

BlockBeats News, October 21st, according to Coindesk, the province of British Columbia in Canada announced that to protect the electricity supply for industries that create employment and public revenue, it will permanently ban new cryptocurrency mining projects from accessing the power grid. As the third most populous province in Canada, this measure was included in the province’s comprehensive legislative and regulatory reform plan announced by the government on Monday, which also introduced new restrictions on electricity usage for data centers and artificial intelligence companies.

“The government will implement multiple regulatory policy adjustments in the fall of 2025, by permanently banning new cryptocurrency mining projects from accessing the British Columbia Hydroelectric Power Company grid to maintain the province’s power supply and avoid grid overload,” the provincial government stated on its official website.
