Ethereum Foundation core member Josh Stark will resign, who has led major upgrades such as The Merge

BlockBeats News, April 16th. According to The Block, Ethereum Foundation (EF) key figure Josh Stark has announced his resignation after five years of service. Stark, who joined the Ethereum Foundation in 2019, initially worked in the Special Projects team and later rose to a leadership position. He has collaborated with EF Chair Aya Miyaguchi, Ethereum’s founder Vitalik Buterin, Co-Executive Directors Hsiao-Wei Wang and Bastian Aue, among other senior leaders. He is one of the most prominent faces of the foundation, having led several significant Ethereum initiatives, including “The Merge” upgrade from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake, as well as subsequent upgrades like Dencun, Fusaka, and Pectra.

During last year’s restructuring of the foundation’s senior management, he was appointed as a “Co-Steward” of the EF Board and more recently served as Co-Chair of the “Trillion-Dollar Security” initiative. Last month, Stark, along with Josh Rudolf and Julian Ma, co-authored a strategic Ethereum blog post outlining the latest scalability directions for Ethereum and its relationship with the Layer 2 ecosystem. Stark stated, “I have not yet planned for the future; I just want to take a good rest and spend time with my family and friends.”

This resignation comes amidst the continued transformation of the Ethereum Foundation. Following a significant leadership reshuffle last year, the foundation has since refocused its strategy on Ethereum’s mainnet scalability and core cypherpunk values. Tomasz K. Stańczak also stepped down from his Co-Executive Director role at the end of February this year, having served for less than a year. On the same day, Trent Van Epps also announced his departure from EF to fully dedicate himself to his founded Ethereum Core Developer independent funding organization, Protocol Guild.
