In a BlockBeats news on March 17, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas called for the US and Israel to end the war on Iran, emphasizing that the EU is in discussions with multiple Middle Eastern countries to de-escalate the current conflict through diplomatic means.
Kallas stated that the EU has been in communication with Gulf countries, Jordan, Egypt, among others, seeking to facilitate negotiations among all parties to de-escalate the conflict and provide a “dignified exit” for the relevant countries.
Addressing the energy and shipping crisis caused by Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Kallas proposed adopting a model similar to the “Black Sea Grain Initiative” to ensure the safety of navigation in the strait through an international mechanism. She mentioned having discussed this proposal with the UN Secretary-General, and the UN is currently advancing discussions on this matter.
