Hong Kong’s Largest Online Shopping Scam in 2025 Involves Cryptocurrency Transaction, with a Total Value of Over 3.7 Million Hong Kong Dollars

BlockBeats News, February 28th. According to the Hong Kong Commercial Daily, the Hong Kong police received a total of 12,505 online shopping fraud cases in 2025, an increase of 8.2% from 2024. The largest single-loss online shopping fraud case of the year involved a cryptocurrency transaction. The victim joined a Telegram cryptocurrency trading group and received a private message from a fake customer service representative asking for a “verification code” for group entry verification. The fraudster then transferred all the virtual assets in the victim’s Telegram-linked wallet, resulting in a total loss of over 3.7 million Hong Kong dollars.
