BlockBeats News, March 17th, as Iran intensifies its attacks on key energy nodes, a large gas field within the UAE was set ablaze. At the same time, U.S. President Trump issued a call to allies for assistance in reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The drone attack on the Shah gas field occurred near the UAE’s border with Saudi Arabia. This marked Iran’s first damage to the country’s oil and gas upstream facilities during the conflict. The UAE government stated that operations at the gas field have been suspended, with no casualties on site. The field is jointly operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and the Texas-based Occidental Petroleum.
Facing multiple drone and missile attacks, the UAE closed its airspace at night. Authorities said air traffic resumed to normal on early Tuesday. Just a day before the attack, Iran also hit a fuel depot at Dubai’s main airport, causing a huge column of smoke over the world’s busiest international air hub and briefly halting flights.
