Tether’s major investor donates over £12 million to the UK Reform Party in support of crypto-friendly policies

BlockBeats News, March 7th, according to the latest disclosure from the UK Electoral Commission, London-based investor Christopher Harborne has provided further donation support to the UK Reform Party. Harborne is estimated to hold about 12% of the shares of the world’s largest stablecoin issuer Tether.

The disclosure documents show that following last year’s publicized £9 million donation, Harborne made another £3 million donation in November last year. Under the leadership of Nigel Farage, the Reform Party has made digital assets a core part of its economic agenda, promising to make the UK a “premier hub” for digital assets and proposing to reduce the cryptocurrency capital gains tax from the current about 18% to 10%.

In 2025, the Reform Party became the first UK political party to accept digital asset donations, allowing supporters to donate using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. This move has raised concerns among some members of parliament. In January this year, seven committee chairs urged the government to ban cryptocurrency political donations, arguing that digital assets could obscure the source of funds and expose the electoral system to the risk of foreign interference.
