The U.S. House of Representatives Advances Stopgap Funding Bill, Aims to Avoid Government Shutdown

BlockBeats News, September 18th. The Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives cleared the way on Wednesday for a later vote this week on a stopgap funding bill aimed at averting a partial government shutdown within two weeks. Lawmakers approved a measure by a vote of 216 to 210 that would allow the House to debate the stopgap bill, which would keep federal agencies funded through November 21st, giving the House and Senate more time to reach agreement on full-year appropriations for the fiscal year 2026 starting on October 1st.

Republicans hope to pass the stopgap bill by Friday and send it to the Senate for consideration. The bill would still need to pass the Senate and be signed by President Trump to become law. With a 53-47 majority, Republicans control the Senate, where the stopgap measure, known as a Continuing Resolution (CR), would need 60 votes for passage. Democrats oppose the bill and are working on an alternative. (Golden Ten)
