The UK Plans to Postpone Key Decision on AI-Related Copyright Regulations

BlockBeats News, March 7th, according to the Financial Times, due to strong opposition from the creative industry, UK government ministers will delay controversial changes to copyright rules that would have made it easier for AI companies to access and use media content.

A person familiar with the UK government’s response to the two-month consultation said, “The copyright issue will be put on hold once again.” The consultation was aimed at soliciting views on how to regulate AI companies’ access to copyright-protected material, with the government’s official response expected to be released in the next two weeks.

Two insiders revealed that the public’s feedback on the consultation did not support any of the government’s proposed schemes for AI to use copyright-protected material. Ministers have therefore decided to review the plans, gather more evidence, and engage in longer consultations on multiple options.
