The US Congress Urges SEC to Allow Inclusion of Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency in 401(k) Retirement Plans

BlockBeats News, December 12, According to Cryptopolitan, the U.S. Congress is urging the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to approve Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies for inclusion in 401(k) retirement plans.

Members of the House Financial Services Committee wrote to SEC Chairman Paul Atkins urging him to update securities rules to consider digital assets as an investment category equal to other alternative investments in retirement accounts. It was pointed out that Americans saving for retirement should have more investment options, current rules are outdated and overly restrictive, hindering millions of people from accessing new asset classes. In addition, the letter also emphasized the need to redefine the “accredited investor” standard. The current stringent investor qualification rules limit participation in certain private and alternative investment markets.
