BlockBeats News, March 13th, according to WSJ reports, two U.S. officials said that as Iran escalates its attacks on the Strait of Hormuz, the Pentagon is deploying a Marine expeditionary unit to the Middle East.
The officials said Defense Secretary Haggis had approved a request from U.S. Central Command to deploy this expeditionary unit, typically consisting of up to 2,500 Marines.
The move comes as Iran’s attacks on the strait have nearly paralyzed the shipping in this strategic waterway, causing a disruption to the global economy, driving up gasoline prices, and presenting a significant military and political challenge to Trump.
